BM # 20   Day 3
I have always loved to plan kid’s parties. Starting from the decor to gifts everything…….the food surely takes the top seat. While planning for this BM kid’s Party I decided to make Idli. Kids love finger food, and hate to eat the traditional stuff, so I transformed the idli into Tikka..and served these with Rasam Shots.

My grown up 24 year old kid..did not realize that the white cube in the satay stick was idli and not paneer!! When he ate it, he gave me a wicked smile and said..hey , you cheated!!..but he loved it  and that is what made me smile.I bet all kids..small and big will love this version of  tikkas.

Rasam Recipe

Soak the rice and udad dal seperately for 6-8 hours.
Grind to a fine paste.
Mix the two and leave it to ferment overnight.

Grease a plate and pour the batter and steam for 5- 6 minutes.
Remove.Cool . Cut into cubes.

Tempering
Musturd seeds
Curry leaves
Podi powder / curry powder
Temper the cubes with musturd seeds, curry leaves and podi powder.

Choice of veggies
Red capsicum, cubed
Onion, cubed
Green capsicum, cubed
Saute all these with a pinch of salt.
Keep aside.

Assembling
Thread a peice of green capsicum then onion, then red capsicum, then the cubed idli, reverse back the capsicum onion order.
Pour rasam in small or  shot glasses.
Place the idli tikka on the glass and serve.

Well this is a basic idli recipe that I use, but for today I used ready batter. You can add more idli peices to the satay stick and choose  your own combination of veggies. The podi powder can be substituted with curry powder. I used ready one.
