As a school girl I was fussy about eating my breakfast at 6 am . I remember mom and dad both coaxing me to grab a little bite , but it was always a No . Winters was the time when dad would quietly put a handful of nuts in my school blazer pocket . They were always a mix of dried fruits and nuts .

As a young girl I never knew the importance of these nuts , I munched on them because dad would check the blazer the next day and get upset .After I got married my father in law would mix these dried fruits and nuts , pack them in jars and keep them in my room . Over the years I learnt how important these nuts are .
I grew older and now I make these jars and place them in my children ‘s room . Previously it was just a simple mix , but now we have so many innovative combinations . The taste of the mix changes with a different nuts and fruits , what I like is the addition of chocolate to these mixes , besides adding seeds too . Of course we can minus them when on a strict diet .

For today I have made a Trail Mix with roasted almonds , pecans , pistachios , pumpkin seeds , sunflower seeds along with apricots , candied hibiscus and finally blueberry centred chocolate.

For any Trail Mix one should follow a general ratio of 50 percent nuts, 30 percent dried fruit, 10 percent seeds, and 10 percent of fun elements . You can vary the quantities based on your personal preference and tailor your trail mix to your taste. You could even use up the little bits from your fruit and nut boxes .

These trail mixes are a wonderful source of protein as they have nuts which are high quality protein and are highly absorbable , making it easy for the body to process its nutrients . They have seeds which are a good source of fiber and protein . They have dried fruits which provide us with vitamins and minerals. Many of these vitamins act as  powerful antioxidants in the body, strengthening our immune system . Also they have some fun elements like chocolate which is very important to get a kick from boredom :)) So let’s grab this mix .

  1. So lovely to read about your Dad and FIL..how caring they were!..and I see that you have always been that to all who have come in contact with you, me included..that’s really such a blessing you know!..this trail mix looks so sinful!..I have always postponed making these and grab them as such..must make some soon!

  2. It’s so lovely when our elders do little things for us which we remember long after. Your trail mix looks so tempting and adding chocolates is such a delicious way to make people ask for more.
Your pics and presentation are at a different level ! Kudos

  3. When I young nuts were like precious gems. My granny would only give us a handful when I did the JayA Parvati vrats or as a treat if we helped her to clean her room or massaged her feet. I love mixed trails and looking at your clicks feel like munching on them now.

  4. Never had a chance to taste candied hibiscus , seriously i dont even know that they exists. Mixed fruit trail mix looks absolutely incredible to munch anytime of the day without any guilt.
