Nuts Chikki

Nuts Chikki is a popular and traditional Indian candy made with a mix of almond, cashew, pistachios and flavoured with cardamom . It is one of the exotic Chikki variations .

Traditionally sugar is used to make this candy but I have used jaggery . One needs to melt the jaggery with out using any water and roast till it turns golden and releases a wonderful aroma . Once you have that golden melted jaggery , you can add the nuts . After mixing one just needs to bring the complete mass down and roll it thin . This process has to be done fast as the jaggery tends to dry up as it cools .

I have used almonds , cashews and pistachios , and used cardamom to flavour up the Chikki , but you could use any one but too or perhaps some other combination of nuts . For flavouring you could even use some rose extract or vanilla extract .

The Nuts Chikki is a favourite with my brothers , specially my eldest brother . Recently his son got married and the wedding was in Orlando . Dry Fruits in the form of Mithais , Ladoos , Chikkis are a must to carry , so this time I made this Chikki and some Burfi and everyone simply relished the crunchy Chikki .

Sugar is the principal ingredient used for candies , though jaggery is a excellent option . I wanted to try some sugar lollipops but had to postpone these for the next time Valli announces this theme . Anyway let’s check the recipe for this Nuts Chikki which makes an excellent candy .

  1. At home, my mother and grandma used only jaggery for chikkis. So for me, it was the other way around. I didn’t know people used sugar for this. Anyway, the chikkis look absolutely delicious and it makes such a great snack or gift.

  2. We always make nuts chikki with jaggery, especially the peanut ones and in Tamil we call it as kadalai mittai. It is my favorite snack. Yours just reminded me of that. This looks delicious.s
