Layered Vegetable Daal Khichadi Biryani
The humble khicdi turned into a Protein Rich Biryani, which is comforting as well as delicious.

Mixed Vegetables
  1. Heat oil.
  2. Add cumin seeds, let splutter.
  3. Add green chilly and ginger, sauté.
  4. Add all spices and roast for a minute.
  5. Add the boiled vegetables and mix.
  6. Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Masoor Daal layer
  1. Mix tomato purée to the cooked Daal.
Layering the khichadi
  1. Grease a oven proof dish.
  2. Divide the rice into two parts .
  3. Spread one part in the dish .
  4. Now spread all the daal over the rice.
  5. Sprinkle half the fried onions.
  6. Reserving 1/2 cup mixed vegetables spread a layer over the onions.
  7. Top with the rest of the rice .
  8. Garnish with mixed vegetables and fried onions .
  9. Add blobs of ghee or butter if you like .
  10. Cover with foil and bake the khichadi at 180 deg C for 15 minutes.
  11. Serve hot with pickle or curd.
