Takkali is tomato in Malayalam , and this is one word I learnt while we took a trip to the back waters in Kerala . The Takkali salad is nothing but a very simple salad , infact so simple that I was hesitant to post . The salad is a mix of tomatoes , onions , which are our basic salad ingredients , but the pounded green chilly , the torn curry leaves and a final drizzle of coconut oil take the salad to a different level . The salad can be served with any meal , though nothing like serving it with some rice , curry and thoran .
4 medium tomatoes , chopped
5-6 pearl onions , chopped
1-2 green chillies, pounded
Few curry leaves , roughly torn
Salt to taste
2 tsp coconut oil
Combine all the ingredients except coconut oil. Keep covered for 15 – 20 minutes for the flavors to infuse .
Add coconut oil before serving and mix well.
