BM # 26   Day 6
Occasion : Celebrating participation in a Reality Show

National Geographic Channel has launched a new show titled Mission Cover Shot . This is a reality show , which captures the journey of eight amateur photographers as they battle with their Single Lens Reflex cameras to get that perfect shot.

This programmer has been set in Sri Lanka.

Well among these eight photographers one of them is my nephew, who started photography as a hobby, but has reached a level where he holds exhibitions and it surely is a treat to see his work.

When he finished his shoot in Sri Lanka, we decided to keep a surprise party for him to celebrate his participation. His wife , some friends and I got together and finalized the decor and menu . Since it was a after dinner party we decided to have light biting ‘s  and a few desserts.

The menu went as follows
7 layer dip with corn chips
Strawberry pudding
Ice creams
The cake of course was very special, out sourced we decided on a Canon Camera.
The Carrot Terrine has become a hit in the family so I made this dessert for the party, nearly 5 kgs of halwa and out sourced 1kg gulab jamuns!

Coming to the decor…The party was in the garden and I took up the decor part
I laid small tables, spread net fabric in two contrasting colors. And placed transparent jars and glasses, tied them with net ribbons, filled them with water and floated tea light candles.

I placed some pebbles by the side of these glasses and to finish it placed a jarberra flower. These arrangements were all over the garden.

The serving tables had buffet set up so I spread some net and pebbles, placed single tea light holder along with the Jarberra and placed tags made by my nephews little eight year old.

I was so engrossed with the party that it was difficult for me to click the pictures, so I really don’t have pics of the freshly laid table., I have put in some pics and then decided to make my own 7 layers dip with Nachos.

I made nachos with blue corn flour, which was a gift from Mireille on my trip to US.

Purple Corn Chips
1 cup Blue corn flour
1 cup all purpose flour
4 tsp oil
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp chilly flakes
Salt to taste
Mix all ingredients and make a dough by adding warm water.Knead well.
Divide the dough into small portions and roll out each portion thinly.
Prick with a fork.
Cook lightly on a gridle.
Repeat with rest of the dough.
Cut into squares and then triangles and deep fry until crisp.
Store in an airtight container.

Coming to the seven layer dip

1 cup olives, pitted and sliced
Empty the contents of the baked beans and blend them lightly .

Pierce the capsicum with a fork and hold over the flame till charred.
Remove, rub and peel the charred skin.Wash and chop.
Heat oil saute onions for a few minutes and add the rest of the ingredients.
Cook for 3-5 minutes.
Sour cream
Warm the cream, add a tsp of curd, cover and let rest for 4-5 hours
I used Amul tetra pack and it worked very well.

¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp chilly flakes
¼ tsp oregano
1 ½ tsp cumin seed powder

  1. Awesome is not a word fit to describe this post. I am scared abt the art and craft posts and you are not making my life easier :(. if this post is any indication I better stand outside the class right from now. 🙂 That's what I did in my drawing, classes.

I do remember you sharing the link to Mission Cover shot. I am sorry I do not remember replying back.
What is purple cron flour? I have heard abt purple yam not corn.. The chips and dips look awesome. Must try it out will do so with ordinary corn flour & colour. Will that do?

  2. Archana..Thanks dear..you do not have to worry about the art craft week…I am sure the girls will take good care!LOL..

Regarding Purple..oops..first let me rectify..it is Blue Corn , and not purple, though the color is purple!..This is a variety of Blue corn available in US, the taste is just like our makki ka aata…what we use for our nacho and taco shells. This was a gift from Mireille…and no there is no need to use any color..just make with the yellow corn!

And ya do check the show it is actually very interesting!

  3. OMG! The camera cake looks awesome 🙂 Congrats to your nephew and wishing him loads of luck…I love the blue corn chips and the 7 layer dip is just awesome 🙂 I am bookmarking this recipe to try soon…

  4. 7 layer dip is one of my favorite. It's awesome that you made your own corn chips. Table setup looks amazing and that camera cake is too good.

  5. Congrats to your nephew, you must be really proud of him :-). I saw the cake in the CNC page sometime back. Looks perfect for the occasion.

Lovely set up for the party and knowing you, I wouldn't expect anything less from you now 🙂
