Anarosher Chutney / Pineapple Chutney

Anarosher Chutney / Pineapple Chutney is a deliciously sweet, slightly tart and spicy chutney, popular in Bengali homes.

Anarosher is pineapple and chutney with fruit sounds strange, right? The Bongs are pro with Fruit Chutneys and they all are absolutely delicious and lip-smacking! It was perhaps 15-20 years back when I first had this Anarosher Chutney. I was attending a Bengali Wedding and I very prominently remember the Chutney being served as a part of the meal. Tomato Date Chutney, Mango Chutney are some of the chutneys that feature regularly in their meals.

When we talk of Chutneys we normally serve them as an accompaniment, but with Bongs, this Chutney is served right before the dessert. Actually it can make an excellent dessert! I totally loved this and got so addicted to it that every time I opened the frig, I would eat a spoonful! The flavours are so so good that you simply can’t stop.

I have added sugar to the chutney, but jaggery can be substituted, I am sure it will taste even better !  This chutney was a part of The Bengali Vegetarian Thali which was our Diwali Dinner.

  1. This surely sounds excellent Vaishali. I would love to make it sometime…some months back I tasted their sweet tomato chutney that had loads of raisins, etc, and it was so lip-smacking!. I can’t wait to try this recipe…

  2. That is interesting sweet chutney using pineapple. Being a spice lover I will add some green chillies extra and have them. Looks too tempting. Looks like we can use as sandwich spread too.

  3. I have made this chutney but added panch phoran spice too in it. I love this version of yours too, it looks like a delicious spread for my morning paratha.
