Aatey jo Chilro

Aatey jo Chilro is a wheat flour crepe. These savoury crepes have herbs and spices and are served for breakfast in Sindhi homes.

When it comes to breakfast Sindhi families have a wide variety. It can be as simple as a Grilled Potato Toast or as complex as Dal Pakwan. The Seyu Patata is normally a breakfast reserved for guests, but Aatey jo Chilro or Besan jo Chilro are quick breakfasts which need no pre-planning. One normally has all the ingredients required in the pantry.

Aato is aata or flour, here it is wheat flour which is called Aato . To make a chilro we need to make a batter with wheat flour and water. The batter is that of a dosa batter consistency, not very thick or not runny, just medium. Chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies, coriander leaves and salt are the only addition to this batter, which makes it super delicious. Chopped tomatoes add a special flavour and a vibrant colour, so try not to miss them.

These chilras are made on a non-stick griddle and are soft and gooey. The onions give it a lovely crunch. We normally serve ketchup with these chilras , but green chutney too tastes equally great. This is one breakfast which is also served as an evening snack with a cup of tea. So let’s check the recipe for Aatey jo Chilro which is a part of Sindhi Bread Platter which has been made for The Thali and Platter Festival.

Unfortunately, we do not have any Sindhi restaurants which serve breakfast, but yes Kailash Parbat is one of the most popular Sindhi Restaurant that serves authentic Sindhi Cuisine and fortunately they have branches all over the world.

  1. You reminded my mother in law who used to make this for a quick fix breakfast. My mother would opt for rice flour ones when she hasn’t planned for any breakfasts. These wheat flour crepes make a healthy breakfast.
