Cakesicles

Cakesicles are a bigger version of cake pops. These are shaped like ice cream candy or a popsicle and a fun twist to cake pops.

These Cakesicles were my first trial and honestly speaking I was not very happy with the way they looked but they tasted amazing. The flavours were delicious. A combination of cake, Oreos and Nutella, is a combination made in heaven, and it never fails, right? It truly is a bliss for chocolate lovers.

These are simple to make and is a twist to the cake pops. We have to bake a cake, you could choose to either make chocolate or vanilla. Surely you can make other flavours too. Since we are chocolate lovers I stuck with that flavour. Adding Oreos is optional, you can add or completely omit. I have added Nutella and ganache for binding, though there are more variations like caramel sauce, raspberry sauce or even cream. The idea is to bind the crumbs into a mass.

Next, you need to paint the mould with chocolate, so a shell is formed. One must tap the mould so that the chocolate surface looks clean. I went wrong here and my surface wasn’t very clean :((. After the chocolate dries a shell is formed and we need to add the cake dough we have prepared. One must press this cake dough very well, else you shall see gaps. After placing it to set a little, the ice stick is inserted and then with the help of a piping bag the surface is coated with chocolate.

Once the chocolate is set and the cake sickles are out of the mould, it’s time to get creative. Our Cakesicles were decorated by my grandchildren.
We served these for the Christmas party where we had a few children and they simply loved the Cakesicles.

Ingredients

150 gms chocolate sponge
50 gms crushed Oreos
100 gms ganache, thick
2 tbsp Nutella
1 cup melted chocolate
Sprinklers for decorating

Method

Take a mixing bowl and add crumbled chocolate sponge.
Add crushed Oreos. You can add any other biscuits of your choice too.
Add thick ganache and Nutella.
Mix very well with your hands so that everything incorporates well.
Check the dough, it should form a ball.
It will separate if it has too much sauce, add more cake crumbs.
If it is dry add sauce or Nutella.
Place the dough in the fridge for 10 minutes.
Now take the cakesicle mould and using a fresh paintbrush, cover each cavity with melted chocolate.
Make sure the chocolate is not very warm, else it will not coat well. Keep tapping the mould, so the chocolate becomes uniform.
Let set for 5-7 minutes.
Now fill these cavities with the chocolate dough.
Press well so that there are no gaps. Place in the frig for 10 minutes.
Now insert the ice cream stick through the slot in the cakesicles mould.
Be gentle, and make sure you push up the stick till you reach 3/4 length of the cakesicles.
Now using a piping bag, coat the cakesicles with chocolate.
Refrigerate overnight for the chocolate to set.
Gently remove from the mould, by tilting the stick first and then pushing it upwards.
Now you can decorate with different sprinklers.
