Chocolate Cake with Do Pad Ki Roti is a innovative Cake using the Gujrati Do pad ki Roti and fresh home made cream cheese and nutella . The cake is layered with 40 rotis , it is delicious with a topping of mangoes and resembles a Crepe Cake.
4 th September is my Dad’s birthday , we are not together to celebrate it , but I like to cherish his memories and thank him for what I am today . Posting a cake on his birthday is mandatory , I like to wish and pray for his happiness , seek blessings from him – from heaven . This is my way of wishing and remembering him . Happy Birthday Dad !
With the theme Flatbreads and More , I didn’t know how I could make a cake for him with any flatbread . I thought of the Crepe Cake , but since crepes do not fall under the Flatbreads category , I had to think out of the box . I decided to make the Gujrati Do pad ki Roti which is a paper thin roti and layer it with cream cheese . Initial plan was to make a Indian based stuffing with badam pista kesar . Then I though of Gulkand and pistachios but finally decided on nutella . Chocolate flavour is divine and loved by most . I know that kids don’t mind a Nutella smeared roti , so this was the final choice .
The cake is made with papaer thin rotis, Twenty rotis, which were ripped open. The filling is made by home made cream cheese, with nutella.I layered the chapatis alternatively. The first layer was chocolate sauce and a thick layer of nutella. The second was Nutella cream cheese.Like a crepe cake I refrigerated the cake overnight . On slicing the cake , It looked heavenly, just like a crepe cake, though it wasn’t as soft as I expected , I realised my mistake , I should have dipped the rotis in chocolate milk for them to become soft , and then layered them . So if any of you plan to make it , do soak the rotis in chocolate milk for a couple of minutes .
The cake tasted awesome , unbelievably delicious , the mangoes took it to another level and I was very happy with it . Definitely it was slightly chewy but the flavours were to die for . I had made 20 rotis and got 40 on ripping them , so this is a 40 layer cake . The layers showed up quite well after slicing . A cake which is so close to my heart .
