How to make the Mediterranean Mezze Platter ?

Use a board or a platter depending on the number of people enjoying it. I made it for a party where we were 10 of us.
I used a board that was 23 x 32”.

Dips – No Mezze platter would be complete without the classic hummus. So we start with the classic hummus making it the centrepiece. Try adding different variations of hummus so that we have contrasting colours. I added Beetroot Hummus and Basil Hummus. You can also add different dips like Muhammara, Tzatziki or Spring Onion Sauce.

Salads are very refreshing and make excellent light appetisers. Place the salads on one side. I served two salads. The first one is a simple Potato Salad, which is very easy, colourful and delicious. The second salad is Fattoush.

Bread and Crackers add dimension to the boards. You can grill the pita to make it warm, but I prefer it as it is. Manakeesh with Zatar is a flavorful bread and perfect to scoop out various dips. Lavash and Cheese crackers make crunchy bitings. Try placing them around the dips.

Pickles like Mukhalal, Stuffed Peppers or marinated olives give a wonderful zing to these appetisers.

Falafel is a chickpea patty or a fritter if you may call it so. These fried beauties actually turn the evening platter into a wholesome dinner. Try placing them next to the pita, so you can fill your own pocket, something like a DIY.

Fresh Produce – Fill in the gaps with fresh fruits, like grapes, pomegranates and fresh veggies like cucumbers, Tomatoes or Avocado slices.

Cheese is a must on these boards and nothing like Homemade Labneh Balls. Feta too is a flavourful cheese and makes an excellent accompaniment with this bread.

Don’t forget to place a stack of napkins by the side of the board.

  • Variety of Olives
  • Variety of Cheese
  • Nuts
  • In short swap in any other dips, vegetables, or fruits depending on what’s in season and what you have in your refrigerator . It has to be a combination of flavours, textures and colours.

Can I make a Mezze Platter in 30 minutes ?

Yes, you can! Dips like Hummus, Muhammara, Tzatziki are available in grocery stores. Different kinds of cheese, chips, crackers and bread too can be store-bought. Add in a quick salad like Fattoush, some fresh fruits and veggies and the Mezze platter is ready.

These Mezze platters or charcuterie boards are a hit at any party or get together. They are ideal for those lazy evenings when you do not want to cook. Our love for Mediterranean Cuisine is coming up in the form of a restaurant. Yes, we are opening up Pita Pita, a Mediterranean restaurant very soon.
