Takkali Salad Kerala Style

Takkali Salad is a salad made with tomatoes, onions and green chillies. The Kerala style salad is topped with coconut oil.

Takkali is tomato in Malayalam, and this is one word I learnt while we took a trip to the backwaters in Kerala. The Takkali salad is nothing but a very simple salad, in fact so simple that I was hesitant to post. The salad is a mix of tomatoes, onions, which are our basic salad ingredients, but the pounded green chilly, the torn curry leaves and a final drizzle of coconut oil take the salad to a different level. The salad can be served with any meal, though nothing like serving it with some rice, Curry and Thoran.

Takkali Salad is my Day 3 post under the theme Summer Salads where I posted Koshimbir, Udupi style and Anarkali Salad.

  1. The ground green chili pepper and coconut oil is a very interesting addition. You have a knack for collecting recipes where ever you go.

  2. Sometimes we consider certain things to be so simple to post, but they turn out to be a crowd pleaser. There is a flavorful twist in this otherwise simple onion tomato salad

  3. simple dishes are always ignored. dont underestimate their power. Well adding coconut oil definitely makes it a new version of mixing onion n tomato. But yes this simple salad is always in demand,
