While choosing my dishes for Sri Lankan Cuisine, Cauliflower Frikadels caught my attention. I chose my recipes from The Wonders of Vegetarian Cooking, these Frikadels are just like Indian Pakoras. The taste is very similar, though these are made by marinating the cauliflower with coconut and spices. The batter too is different , but they are fried golden beauties which can’t be refused.
Check out how I made them.
Cauliflower Frikadels
500 gms cauliflower florets
1 onion
5 cloves garlic
Juice of 1 lemon
1/2 tsp chilly ginger paste
1/2 cup curd
1/2 cup grated coconut
Salt to taste
11/2 cups gram flour
1/2 cup wheat flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp chilly ginger paste
Salt to taste
Make a thick batter with water with the above ingredients.
Boil the cauliflower till semi cooked.
Let cool.
Prepare a paste of onion, garlic and add the rest of the ingredients for marinade.
Marinade the cauliflower for 2 hours.
Heat oil.
Dip each cauliflower piece into the batter.
Deep fry till crisp and golden.

terribly addicitive ! I am wanting to munch some with my green tea now :-))
This dish must be of Danish origin with the marinated filling. Very different in a nice way.
Though the recipe is different, these look like our Indian fritters. Yummy
Love the spices used in these pakoras. They look fluffy and delicious.
frikadel sounds exotic..
