Dhokla Cake

Dhokla Cake is a steamed lentil cake made with two different layers of lentils and rice . It is soft and spongy and adorns your breakfast table .

Ingredients

  • Yellow Dhokla batter
  • 1 carrot grated
  • White Dhokla batter
  • Tempering
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • leaves Few curry
  • 1-2 fresh green chilly
  • 1-2 dry red chilly
  • 1 tsp grated carrot
  • coriander leaves

Instructions

  • Place water in a steamer and let the water boil.
  • Grease a cake tin.
  • Pour the white dhokla batter and place it to steam .
  • In the meantime add grated carrots to the yellow dhokla batter and mix well .
  • As soon as the white dhokla is done , which should take about 10 minutes , pour the yellow dhokla mix .
  • Cover and steam till done.
  • Test check with a skewer .
  • It should come out clean .

Tempering

  • Heat oil.
  • Add mustard seeds , let splutter .
  • Add curry leaves and slit green chillies .
  • Immediately add whole red chillies and sesame seeds .
  • Pour on the cake .
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Cut into wedges and serve .
