Orange Upside Down Cake

Orange Upside Down Cake is a cake made with oranges and chocolate cake batter . The caramelized oranges are the highlight of the cake .

Ingredients

Cake

  • 11/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tbsp orange zest

Caramel

  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Orange slices

Instructions

Caramel

  • In a nonstick pan heat sugar.
  • Let dissolve , add butter .
  • Let the sugar turn golden , keep stirring to get a uniform colour .
  • Pour the caramelised sugar into the baking tin and arrange the orange slices .
  • Keep the tin aside .

Cake

  • Sieve the dry ingredients.
  • Warm the water and add sugar , add oil and mix.
  • Let the water come to room temperature.
  • Mix the ingredients into the wet.
  • Mix well to make a smooth batter.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared mould.
  • Bake at 180 deg C for35 to 40 minutes or until screwer comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool.
  • Flip over the cake and serve.
