De seed the dates, if not using seedless ones.
Chop them into smaller pieces.
Place them in a bowl.
Sprinkle a pinch of baking soda on dates.
Heat water, and pour this hot water over the dates.
Cover the bowl for 10-15 minutes.
Mix the flour , baking soda and baking powder.
Mix in the powdered sugar.
Now puree the dates along with water.
Add oil to it and pulse the mixer again so that the oil and dates blend well.
Add vanilla extract.
Mix all wet ingredients with the dry ingredients .
Add walnuts and mix again.
Pour into a lined and greased baking tin and bake at 180 deg for 40-45 minutes or till done.
Check with a skewer , if it comes out clean the cake is done.
Let cool.
