Amla Candy

Amla Candy is a healthy , nutritious candy prepared with gooseberries . These are a powerhouse of vitamin C and can be stored for a long time .

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Amla
  • 750 gms sugar

Instructions

  • Method
  • Wash the amlas well .
  • Next take a big pot , fill it with enough water so that the Amlas are submerged .
  • Place the water to boil .
  • Once the water starts boiling add the amlas .
  • Boil the amlas for 2 minutes and then switch off the flame and cover them for 5 minutes .
  • Drain the water using a sieve.
  • As soon as they become cold , slice them using a knife, remove the kernels .
  • Put the Amla pieces in other pot and add 650 gms of sugar , so that it covers all the Amla pieces .
  • Powder the 50 gms and keep aside .
  • Cover and leave overnight .
  • Next day sugar will turn into a syrup and Amla pieces will float .
  • Stir the syrup and pieces and then these covered for another 2-3 days .
  • After 2-3 days the Amla pieces will sink down .
  • Use a thick sieve , strain the Amla pieces . Reserve the syrup .
  • Pick each piece and place them on a plastic sheet and place them in the sunlight .
  • Sun dry these pieces till they are completely dry .
  • Toss these into powdered sugar and store the Amla Candy in a airtight container .
  • The reserved syrup can be used to make Amla Sharbet .
