Beans Paruppu Usili

Beans Paruppu Usili is a Udupi side dish made with beans and lentil dumplings . The dish is simple , with minimum spices yet has a fantastic flavour .

Ingredients

  • 1 cup beans chopped and boiled
  • 1/2 cup toor daal
  • 1/4 cup channa daal
  • 2 red chillies
  • 2 tbsp coconut grated

Tempering

  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp channa daal
  • 1/2 tsp urad daal
  • 2 red chillies dry , whole
  • Few curry leaves

Instructions

  • Soak chaana daal and toor dhal for an hour along with red chillies.
  • Drain and grind to a coarse batter. Use water only if required .
  • Make small balls of this batter and steam them in a steamer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Cool and crumble these balls and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan and add oil .
  • Add the tempering ingredients and as soon as the daal turns pinkish add boiled beans, crumbled daal balls, coconut and salt.
  • Mix well .
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes and then serve .
