Matar ki Tehri

Matar ki Tehri is one of the Awadhi names given to Biryanis. Yellow rice is made with aromatic pure ghee. This Tahiri has fresh green peas and tastes absolutely divine.

Ingredients

  • 11/2 cups basmati rice
  • 3-4 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup fresh green peas
  • Pinch sugar
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chilly powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Heat oil .
  • Add the fresh peas, sauté for 2-3 minutes .
  • Add a pinch of sugar .
  • Now add the rice, turmeric powder, chilly powder and salt and sauté.
  • Add 3 cups of water and transfer the rice to a rice cooker and cook .
  • Alternatively you could cook on stove top , after adding water , let the rice cook on full flame till 80% done .
  • Simmer the gas, cover the rice and place a heavy object on it , the rice will be done in 3-5 minutes.
  • Fluff up the rice and enjoy the Tahiri .
