Mumbai Tawa Khichadi

Mumbai Tawa Khichadi is a Khichadi made on a griddle , with precooked Khichadi and Vegetables, just the way the way Pav Bhaji is made . Served with a big dollop of butter the Khichadi is a wholesome and finger licking meal .

We begin with a new week and I have again divided the week into two categories . I shall be posting Khichadis for the first three days and the next three days I shall serve Rice with a Twist. So let’s begin with our first Khichadi recipe .

Khichadis are becoming a fad food , they are a rage and I see lot of food trucks and restaurants here serve a big variety of Khichadis. If you look at the menu you sure are going to wonder and say wow !

Tawa Khichadi is a Fusion Khichadi made on the lines of a Tawa Pulao and Pav Bhaji . For Tawa Pulao we have cooked rice and we toss them with veggies , here we toss the precooked Khichadi with veggies . We then mash it all up just like a pav bhaji . We even flavour it up with pav bhaji masala and serve it with a dollop of butter .

I came across Mumbai Tawa Khichadi while going through a online restaurant menu . I really don’t know how the restaurant serves this Khichadi, and I came up with my own version of this Khichadi . The Khichadi was a interesting blend of street food and comfort food . It tasted almost like Pav Bhaji and i am sure kids wouldn’t know that you are serving them Khichadi .

The Khichadi that I made was quite spicy , as I used those tiny sharp green chillies too , but I have not mentioned them in the ingredient list as it had made the Khichadi really spicy . We must remember that the Pav Bhaji masala also contains chilly . So please adjust the spice level as per your taste and enjoy the Khichadi . Mumbai Tawa Khichadi is my Day 13 post under the theme Biryani , Pulao , Khichadi Festival .

  1. had only heard of Mumbai’s tawa pulao ! didn’t know a khichri also existed 🙂 for the non-khichri takers at home, this surely is a way to sneak that dish in :p

  2. Never heard of Tawa Khichdi while we were in Mumbai, but this version looks extremely flavorful and comforting. I am going to try it soon.

  3. I have never heard of tawa khichadi or may be the name, a I try to make a similar version to use leftover khichdi. The pic is super tempting and looks very delicious.
