Cooking with alphabets “Q”
Ah the alphabet “Q” !! It did bother me a bit.I did have a few recipes but Indian Regional was little tough.With these smart phones life has changed and one of my cousins suggested Qorma. I was not willing to accept the Qorma with “Q” , I kept insisting it’s a “K “till my cousin asked me to check wiki.To quote wiki…Korma, kormaa, qorma, khorma, or kurma is a dish originating in South Asia or Central Asia which can be made with yogurt, cream, nut and seed pastes or coconut milk. It is a type of curry. This surely was a boon.

Frankly speaking I am not fond of mixed vegetables, but I had no choice.I tried Tarla Dalal’s recipe and made some changes to it.I added some paneer, as this would make it rich.

It is rather starnge that I had a nice big bowl.My hubby was surprised to see me eating mix vegetables I was surprised too, but I guess it is one of those phobias that a person has.The recipe is absolutely wonderful, it is simple, quick and yet delicious.

1/2 cup French beans
1/2 cup carrots
1/2 cup fresh peas
1/2 cup potatoes
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup tomatoes

Dry spice powder
2tbsp poppy seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 small piece cinnamon
6-8 cloves
2 green cardamoms
Dry roast the spices and grind them.

1/4 cup coconut, grated
3-4 green chillies
1 small piece ginger
Bunch coriander leaves
Pinch turmeric.
Make a paste of the above ingredients.
Boil the vegetables.
Add tomatoes and cook on slow fire.
Add the pastes and dry masala.
Mix gently.
Heat oil and temper the Qorma with bay leaves.

The qorma surely was a treat as everyone enjoyed it. I must tell you that it was very difficult for me to get banana leaves for presentation, every time I wanted to use them I had to drive 4 – 5 kms and then pay a bomb.Whenever I would drive I would constantly look out for banana trees, finally I did find a colony where they had some in the parking lot. While removing the leaves I would feel like a thief and gave up right away. To save from all these botheration I have planted a banana tree in the back yard.Now I just have to walk a few steps to get the banana leaf and no guilt too!!

  2. hahahh..that was really funny..imagine looking around to see if somebody catches you!..your banana tree is ready with its you must be planning lot of Kachhe Kele Ki Sabzi no?..the Qorma looks very inviting..never knew about your phobia though..with parotta this would have tasted awesome..

  3. I too checked it out in the wiki :D!! I cannot stop laughing at the image of you looking around for a banana leaf :))..Great thta you have one at your place now…

    And great recipe btw! Paneer must have made a whole lot of difference to the texture and I hope this dish has cured you of the mixed veggie 'phobia' or lessened it a bit at least!
