I have chosen to work under the theme crepes for the first week of BM 82 . Yesterday I made Spinach and Lentil Crepes , today I have the Besan Chilla .

 

Besan chilla are very popular in Rajasthan , they are also very popular as a street food in Delhi . Now we have many versions of these chillas , the one available on the streets are very different and I shall definitely post those too . Today’s version is a routine breakfast chilla served in Sindhi homes … but with a fusion . The chilla is same but I added some vada stuffing to make it into a filling meal . We had these Chillas for dinner , though this could pass as an excellent evening snack . One can enjoy these without the stuffing for breakfast . So let’s check the recipe .

Chickpea flour Crepes with Potato Stuffing

Ingredients

Crepes

1 cup chick pea flour
1/2 onion , finely chopped
1-2 green chilly , finely chopped
Coriander leaves
1 cup water ( approximately )
Salt to taste

Stuffing

1 cup boiled mashed potatoes
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp whole coriander seeds
2 green chilly, chopped
Pinch hing
Curry leaves
1/4 tsp red chilly powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp dry mango powder
1/4 tsp garam masala
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
Salt to taste

Method

Crepes

Mix all ingredients and make the batter adding the water gradually .
The batter should be of dosa consistency .
Heat a griddle , drizzle some oil .
Take a ladleful of batter and spread in concentric circle , just like making dosa.
Simmer the flame and cover the chilla with a deep dish cover.
After 2-3 minutes drizzle oil and flip the chilla .
Cook the other side too drizzling little oil .

Stuffing

Heat oil.
Add mustard , whole coriander seeds,asafetida , green chilly and curry leaves.
Add turmeric.
Add mashed potatoes.
Add red chilly powder,dry mango powder and garam masala.
Add the ginger garlic paste.
Add coriander.
Mix well.

 

Chickpea flour Crepes with Potato Stuffing

These chickpea flour crepes are versatile, serve them with or without stuffing, they make an excellent snack or could even be served for breakfast.
