Upside Down Pizza Toast is a delicious toast with pizza flavours and makes a lovely filling snack .
When Valli announced the Upside Down Theme , I picked it without giving it a thought , then realised that there were so many cakes which fitted the theme . Upside Down Pineapple Cake topped the list , but I was looking for at least one savoury dish .
The Upside Down Pizza Toast is inspired by one of those quick videos on FB where they use egg to make this toast . Since I do not use eggs the vegetarian option was to use chickpea flour batter . I was not happy with the pictures and wanted to re do , but with my health conditions it’s not possible , so even though I know it’s not justice to the recipe , I am posting it . Those of you who eat eggs can make the toast by adding an egg over the onion tomato mix .
The toast is simple and quick and has a mild flavour of pizza and hence I named it Upside Down Pizza Toast . I have some pics for reference , hope you enjoy this toast which can make a great lunch box recipe too .
Upside Down Pizza Toast
Ingredients
3 slices bread
1 onion, finely chopped
1 tomato , finely chopped
1/2 capsicum , finely chopped
1 green chili , finely chopped
1 tbsp tomato ketchup
1/4 tsp pizza seasoning
Cheese slice
Batter
1/4 cup chickpea flour
Salt to taste
Method
Take chickpea flour in a mixing bowl .
Add salt .
Gradually add water and make a thin consistency lump free batter .
Take the bread and cut a rectangle / square leaving 1 “ on all sides . ( please refer the picture )
Heat a non stick griddle .
Drizzle some oil .
Add onions , tomatoes , capsicum, green chilly .
Sauté for a minute or two .
Add the ketchup , pizza seasoning and salt .
Divide the filling into 3 parts on the same griddle.
Place the hollow bread slices on top . ( Refer pics )
Pour some batter over this mixture which is inside this cavity.
Cover with cheese and then the bread piece that is saved from the square / rectangle that we had cut .
Drizzle little oil and flip over the pizza .
Let it toast and become slightly crisp .
Flip and serve .

This is an excellent idea Vaishali. I had a complicated recipe planned up, which I am yet to make. You just gave me such a wonderful idea!.. that toast looks amazing.
These toasts look fantastic Vaishali. I remember the egg recipe from my Insta feed. The eggless version with besan is perfect.
What an interesting way to make pizza with bread slices. My pizza loving son would LOVE this. I am going to try these for him.
Wow a nice way to enjoy toast in a completely different form. I do make this but dip the complete bread in the chickpea and veg batter, this is a new idea. Thanks for sharing.

This is so amazing and what a great idea. My older one learned something like this in his school and it was made with eggs. I like the idea of using besan to make it egg less as my husband did not eat any that he made that day.
This is a great option for vegetarians with healthy besan and veggies. Kid will love this cheesy pizza toast .
